Leadership Development at VNS Health
The Context: When VNS Health experienced a wave of internal promotions, many talented individual contributors found themselves leading teams for the first time - without formal management training. To address this gap, the organization launched the Foundational Leadership Excellence (FLX) program, a comprehensive 3-month leadership development initiative designed to equip new managers with essential skills.
The Program
FLX covered critical leadership competencies including difficult conversations, employee empowerment, and performance management. Through case studies, peer discussions, and networking opportunities, participants gained practical tools and best practices they could apply immediately. The program offered both in-person and virtual sessions to accommodate different learning styles and schedules.
The Challenge: As the second cohort launched, the team needed significant logistical support to deliver a seamless experience for participants across multiple locations and formats.
My Approach: I took full ownership of backend operations for one cohort, managing everything from participant communications to session logistics. I identified opportunities to increase efficiency, such as implementing mail merges for invitations, creating streamlined workflows for calendar management, and developing systems for uploading materials, booking spaces, and tracking participant engagement. I also helped facilitate live learning sessions to ensure smooth delivery.
Impact: The program received overwhelmingly positive feedback in post-program surveys. My contributions earned recognition from a Senior VP for top-quality work and reliability in executing this high-visibility initiative.
